This is a section to discuss how best to manage photos and videos on the iPad and where to store them.
If you find some great external info on a blog or the Apple site post the URL in here for others to read.

Personally i back up my photos and videos on multiple sites as well as external hard drives. When you sign up for iCloud, you automatically get 5 GB of free storage. If you need more storage space, you can upgrade to a larger storage plan for your iCloud account. I got the 10GB upgrade for $21. On your iPad, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup to turn it on. This page talks about managing iCloud storage - support.apple.com/kb/ht4847Alternative backups. Here is a recent news article about this - www.smh.com.au/digital-life/digital-life-news/cloud-storage-which-service-is-best-20140608-zrw8k.htmlPersonally, as an avid photographer i use Flickr to upload my photos and videos as it offers 1TB for free and its not just storage, its a great way to view and organize your pics. They have great privacy settings. If you have a new TV or Apple TV etc you can have your Photostream or Flickr page display on your TV. I will post more about Photostream.

Photo Stream is Apple's cloud-based photo sharing service that allows easy sharing of photos between devices. The photos can be viewed on the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Apple TV as well as Macs and Windows-based PCs. You can turn on Photo Stream for any of these supported devices, and your latest photos will automatically be shared between any devices on your Apple account that have Photo Stream turned on. This means you don't have to actively download photos on your iPad that you took with your iPhone, if both devices have Photo Stream turned on, the photos will be shared. Photo Stream is a bit complicated so i strongly advise you read this link. Its well worth your time - support.apple.com/kb/ht4486Some quick points - remember that if you switch Photo Stream on the iPad it will show ALL photos across ALL devices that share that iTunes account. Be mindful that your family photos will show up on their iPad if you don't have it switched OFF. If you have seen National Lampoon's European Vacation you will understand the consequences Photo Stream is NOT storage, its view only and not permanent. Photos in My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days. To save or back up these photos, you must copy them from My Photo Stream to your Camera Roll on your iPad device. You can then back up your Camera Roll using iCloud or iTunes. Note that any pics the kids take on the iPad will be in the Camera Roll already.
