Hi everyone, at the risk of sounding negative at the BYOD program (which I am not) I have a few questions that I hope that you can help me to answer so that I can understand the reasoning behind the current BYOD program: 1. Where is the proof that tablet technology will increase our kids ability to learn, and does it justify the cost? 2. Where is the proof that i-pads are the best tablet technology for this purpose? 3. If we own the i-pads, why do we have an i-pad user agreement that stipulates that teaching staff have the right to look at any application or file on the i-pad at any time? Why do teachers have the discretion to remove apps that they consider 'not to be of educational value'? Why do we have to 'remove all photos and video from the i-pad before coming to school' every day? If we own these devices then shouldn't we decide how they are used? 4. The current user agreement states that the i-pad should not be taken out of the classroom during recess and lunchtime, which I believe is a smart choice. Despite this, is there a benefit in hosting 'Minecraft clubs' for kids during lunchtimes? Many psychologists believe that kids with behavioural issues such as ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) benefit from having this kind of 'structured play' rather than the 'chaos' of 'normal' play during unsupervised breaks.
